In the spring of 2008 I was an instructor at the Pacific Fiddle College in Hope BC. On of my greatest joys at this camp was a new and exciting friendship I discovered with Alex Lamoureux. I had known Alex when he was a younger boy at fiddle camps but now he has become a great young man and a terrific fiddler. So many things impressed me at that camp and since then. Often young players are much more content to hang out with people their own ages but Alex has no such limitations. He honours people of my generation with his interest, respect and friendship. I quickly discovered that he enjoyed sitting next to me in jam sessions as much as I enjoyed being next to him. He is a fearless player with an ear far beyond his age. We spent a lot of time jamming on tunes in ways that I rarely get to experience. He has his mother's musical sense--as high a compliment as anyone could have. He plays with fire and passion but with real care about tradition. He is destined to be one of our most interesting and exciting players. Beyond this and maybe more importantly, he is a quality young man who is a joy to be around. I can't wait to see where he is going next ...

I first met Alex in 1997 when he was just a little boy playing with his friends on the shores of Emma Lake. It wasn’t very long before Alex grew up to become the tall handsome fiddler that he is now. Following in his mother’s footsteps, Alex, with his aggressive determination, is quickly surpassing the normal standards of fiddlers in his age group. Another potential Grandmasters Champion ....
